The island of Caye Caulker (pronounced Key Caulker)

Caye Caulker our quaint, Caribbean island (about 1.25 miles wide, and 5 miles long), surrounded by crystal clear aqua waters and known for its GO SLOW motto. The island is part of the country of Belize, a small country south of Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula, where English is the official language.  The island’s flat, sandy streets are intended for bare feet, bicycles, and the occasional golf cart; you will not find cars here (except for the Village Council truck, bank vehicle, and two delivery trucks).  Local islanders – descendants of the Spanish, Mayan, African, and Garifuna – are exceptionally friendly and number about 1200.

Centrally located to diverse fishing grounds – flats, mangrove channels, mangrove banks, and open water, Caye Caulker is just about the best spot in Belize for fly fishing.  Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon, and Snook are all within reach.  As are barracuda, jacks, and a variety of other fish.

And if you dare take a break from fishing, you will find beautiful corals, jungles, Mayan ruins, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, golfing, and other tropical adventures.
